Job description

Turion is developing the critical infrastructure of the space economy. We're doing this by building vertically integrated hardware and software: DROID, our line of space vehicles, and Starfire, our software suite covering simulation, modeling, planning, and operations. We're a group of people who fell in love with the future sci-fi promised us, and we're building it into reality. We build hard things. We build them well. And we're just getting started.

We are seeking a Senior Accountant with strong technical accounting acumen, analytical rigor, and an ownership mindset to join our finance and accounting team. In this role, you will lead our revenue accounting under ASC 606, build and maintain matched revenue and cost schedules for DoD government contracts, and manage balance sheet asset schedules with an emphasis on fixed assets, inventory and construction-in-progress (CIP). You will serve as a key partner to Program Management, Supply Chain, and Engineering to ensure financial integrity, audit readiness, and scalable processes as our mission expands.

Key Responsibilities
Revenue Recognition & ASC 606 Compliance
  • Contract Review & Accounting Treatment:Review customer and government contracts to evaluate terms, identify performance obligations, determine transaction prices, and establish proper revenue recognition methodologies (over-time vs. point-in-time) in strict accordance with ASC 606.

  • Revenue Schedules:Build, update, and maintain detailed monthly revenue recognition workpapers, milestone schedules, and percent-of-completion models.

  • Contract Asset & Liability Reconciliation: Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for deferred revenue, unbilled accounts receivable, customer advances, and cost-in-excess-of-billings.

DoD Contract Cost & Revenue Support
  • Cost & Revenue Matching: Develop and reconcile program-specific revenue schedules directly against project cost schedules for DoD and government contracts (Cost-Plus, Firm Fixed Price [FFP], and Time & Materials [T&M]).

  • Estimates at Completion (EAC): Partner with Program Controls and Program Managers to review contract actuals, assess budget-to-actual variances, and update Estimates at Completion (EACs) to reflect accurate progress and margins.

  • Cost pools and rates: Partner w Program Controls and Program Managers to properly account for program costs in the ERP system, cost allocations (people and non people expenses), as well as determining actual costs for fringe, overhead and G&A rates.

  • Project PL: Partner w Program Controls and Program Managers to provide project profitability tracking

  • Compliance & Audit Readiness: Ensure cost allocations comply with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense FAR Supplement (DFARS) principles, segregating unallowable costs and supporting DCAA audit preparedness.

Balance Sheet Asset Schedules & Fixed Assets
  • Fixed Asset Lifecycle Ownership: Own the end-to-end fixed asset ledger, ensuring timely and accurate capitalization, depreciation calculations, impairment evaluations, and disposal entries in accordance with GAAP.

  • Hardware, Inventory & CIP Accounting: Track Construction-in-Progress (CIP) / Work-in-Progress (WIP) for satellite flight units, test equipment, ground stations, and lab tooling, ensuring proper capitalization upon being placed into service.

  • Asset Audits & Schedules: Maintain comprehensive balance sheet roll-forward schedules for all non-current assets (fixed assets, leasehold improvements, capitalized internal-use software, and intangibles), supporting periodic physical asset verifications.

  • General Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Prepare audit-ready reconciliation schedules for prepaid assets, security deposits, and other balance sheet asset accounts.

Month-End Close & General Accounting
  • GL Ownership: Prepare complex journal entries, accruals, and account analyses to support timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycles.

  • Audit & Tax Support: Serve as a key liaison to external auditors for annual financial statement audits, providing clear audit trails and supporting documentation.

  • Systems & Process Optimization: Partner on NetSuite ERP enhancements and automated reporting tools to continuously streamline accounting workflows.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

  • Experience: 6-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience handling technical accounting under US GAAP. Big 4 experience a plus.

  • Tools & Software: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (financial modeling, pivot tables, complex formulas) and experience using modern ERP platforms such as NetSuite.

  • Communication: Ability to clearly explain accounting treatments and financial data to non-finance stakeholders, including engineers and program leads.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active CPA license or passing exam sections.

  • Direct experience with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA compliance reviews.
