Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience, including hands-on Accounts Payable.
  • Experience leading Accounts Payable processes and teams.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements with detailed schedules and reconciliations.
  • Record and post journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis on income statement accounts.
  • Manage and oversee Accounts Payable processes; support Accounts Receivable as needed.
  • Process weekly agent payroll and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with external audits by providing required documentation.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial reports for management.
  • Collaborate with team to identify and implement process improvements.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Controller and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial reporting. This position is responsible for core accounting functions including month-end close, reconciliations, financial analysis, reporting, and oversight of Accounts Payable activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced environment while contributing to continuous process improvements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare and support monthly financial statements, including maintaining detailed supporting schedules and reconciliations
  • Record and post journal entries to the general ledger in accordance with accounting standards
  • Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis on income statement accounts
  • Manage and oversee Accounts Payable processes, including invoice workflow, payment processing, vendor account reconciliations, issue resolution, workload prioritization, and adherence to internal controls; support Accounts Receivable processes as needed
  • Process weekly agent payroll and communicate with agents to resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with external audits by preparing and providing required documentation
  • Participate in month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain accurate and organized accounting records and documentation
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial and performance reports for management
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and implement process improvements
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience, including hands-on Accounts Payable experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading Accounts Payable processes and team members
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting principles
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Transportation experience is preferred but not required
  • McLeod ERP system experience is preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented mindset
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
