GovCIO is seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to lead enterprise SQL Server environments from Washington, D.C. This role is remote within the United States and requires deep expertise across SQL Server platforms and related DB technologies.

You will architect, install, configure, and maintain SQL Server environments, manage clustering and HA/DR, develop complex T-SQL procedures, automate admin tasks with PowerShell, tune performance, and guide developers and project teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or commensurate experience.
  • Minimum 8 years SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Expertise across SQL, SQL Server, SQL Clustering, SQL Scripting, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and MS Access.
  • Experience in HA/DR, performance tuning, and database automation.
  • Strong PowerShell, T-SQL, and automation skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration capabilities.

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to lead the management of enterprise SQL Server environments across multiple platforms. This position will be located in Washington, D.C. and will be a fully remote within the United States position.

Responsibilities

Leads the management of enterprise SQL Server environments across multiple platforms, ensuring database scalability, performance, and resilience. This SME-level role requires mastery of SQL Server systems and related database technologies.

  • Architect, install, configure, and maintain SQL Server environments (2012-2022+).
  • Manage SQL Server Clustering, Always On Availability Groups, and other HA/DR configurations.
  • Develop and optimize complex T-SQL stored procedures, views, triggers, and scripts.
  • Automate administrative routines using PowerShell, SQL scripting, and other automation tools.
  • Perform index tuning, query optimization, statistics management, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Implement secure configurations, audit mechanisms, and access management guidelines.
  • Lead database migrations, schema design, integration planning, and cloud-readiness initiatives.
  • Provide expert guidance to developers and cross-functional project teams.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and creation of corrective action plans.
  • Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams.
Qualifications

Bachelor's with 8+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 8 years SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise across SQL, SQL Server, SQL Clustering, SQL Scripting, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and MS Access.
  • Extensive experience building and supporting standalone and clustered SQL Server databases.
  • Proven success maintaining HA/DR environments and performance tuning.
  • Strong command of PowerShell, T-SQL, and database automation.
  • Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration capabilities.
Preferred Certifications
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) in Data Management & Analytics
