Job summary

L3Harris is seeking a Senior Specialist in Systems Engineering in Lynchburg, VA to lead design, implementation and testing of Land Mobile Radio systems for public safety, transportation and utility customers.

You will work with customers and partners to translate requirements into total system solutions while overseeing design, verification and validation activities and ensuring on-time delivery in a dynamic defense tech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; 6+ years of relevant experience. Graduate degree with 4+ years; or 10+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication in English.
• PMP certification and Sec+ certification are preferred qualifications.
• Experience in land-mobile radio industry and broad knowledge of project management.

Responsibilities

• Provide Systems Engineering project ownership after contract award, including final design, equipment selection, implementation and as-built documentation.
• Coordinate with Project Manager, Network Engineer and other System Engineers to ensure complete lifecycle integration.
• Interact with customers, consultants, vendors and other L3Harris personnel to advance projects.
• Travel 30% or more to support on-site installations and customer meetings.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance and Sec+ certification as required.
• Grow knowledge in specialty areas and become an expert resource.

Job Description

The L3Harris Implementation Systems Engineer is a customer facing position to support the design, implementation and testing of Land Mobile Radio wireless communications systems for Public Safety, Transportation and Utility Customers. System Designs and test plans are developed to meet customer system requirements. Technical oversight for L3Harris and teams of subcontractors is required to meet customer commitments.

Job Responsibilities include the development of design documentation to include application descriptions, interface control documents, system design drawings, system integration, network configuration, and test plans. This role requires participation in discussions with customers, consultants, vendors, subcontractors and other L3Harris personnel as necessary to complete contractual commitments. In addition, technical planning, system parts ordering, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems is required. Analyses are performed at all levels of system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

This position ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems and subsystem solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints.

Essential Functions

• Provide Systems Engineering project ownership after contract award including: final design and equipment selection, implementation and as-built documentation, factory and on-site installation and system optimization.
• Project execution including partnering with a Project Manager, Network Engineer and other System Engineers to ensure complete project lifecycle integration.
• Interaction with project teams, able to accept project responsibilities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges.
• Growing knowledge in one or more specialty areas and working toward becoming an expert resource
• Participate in discussions with customers, consultants, vendors and other L3Harris personnel as necessary to advance projects.
• Ability to travel 30%+
• Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
• Ability to obtain Sec+ certification

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Virginia is $92,500 to $171,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
