Job summary

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) in El Segundo, CA, seeks a Senior or Principal Structural & Payload Design Engineer (Level 5 or 6) to lead the Space Vehicle Design Integration team. You will guide cross-discipline groups through requirements, layout, and verification against performance, environmental, and interface constraints.

Role demands deep spacecraft experience and ability to drive trade studies, C-NRPD plans, and DMU/VM simulations, with on-site work required at the location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, or Materials)
• 10+ years in spacecraft/satellite design, development, test and evaluation

Responsibilities

• Manage and directs the Structural and Mechanical Space Vehicle Engineering Design teams from requirements, design, verification, and production support
• Develops Common Non-Recurring Product Definition (C-NRPD) plans and ensures execution of requirements, design layouts, analysis, testing, and assembly integration
• Leads system level trades to ensure the vehicle design meets physical, mechanical and environmental requirements while accommodating payload, power, propulsion, thermal, communications and attitude control systems
• Defines structural, mechanical, environmental design and integration requirements and its assemblies and components
• Leads design and manufacturing integration using DFMAT principles
• Leads layout reviews and program level General Arrangement meetings across disciplines
• Approves Interface Control Drawings/Models including Moving Mechanical Assemblies (MMAs)
• Oversee Critical Clearance Control Plan (CCCP) including CCCL verification
• Supports and approves manufacturing integration plans, overseeing DMU and VM simulation reviews
• Leads development of structural qualification and acceptance test plans
• Supports program milestone reviews and Gate closures
• Supports design non-conformances and resolution during production
• Provides lessons learned to aid in continuous improvement
• Investigates emerging technologies for future product concepts
