Job description

Senior Spacecraft Integration & Test Engineer
ATLO | Satellite Systems

On-site in El Segundo, CA

$119,850 - $215,000/Yearly

We are hiring a Senior Spacecraft Integration & Test Engineer to support Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations (ATLO) for satellite and space vehicle programs. This role leads spacecraft integration and test activities from assembly through environmental testing and launch integration, working across engineering, manufacturing, programs, facilities, quality, and security to deliver technically rigorous satellite systems on schedule.

This role supports spacecraft manufacturing, hardware-software integration, production testing, troubleshooting, and environmental test campaigns including electromagnetic interference/compatibility (EMI/EMC), dynamics, and thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing. The engineer will also drive improvements in satellite manufacturability, production throughput, test automation, and assembly processes while supporting the development of space vehicles and large-scale satellite constellations.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning and execution of satellite and space vehicle programs from assembly and integration through environmental testing and launch.
  • Develop detailed spacecraft Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations (ATLO) flows, including assembly sequencing, system-level testing, environmental testing, and launch vehicle integration.
  • Review engineering drawings and schematics to identify potential spacecraft build and integration challenges and recommend design-for-manufacturability improvements.
  • Collaborate with technicians, quality inspectors, and engineers in cleanroom environments to troubleshoot non-conformances, develop corrective actions, and provide technical go/no-go decisions and rationale.
  • Integrate, test, and troubleshoot development platforms and flight vehicle systems to validate system functionality and develop high-quality assembly and test procedures.
  • Serve as a signature authority for spacecraft test procedures, assembly procedures, process plans, and new program initiatives.
  • Lead satellite environmental test campaigns, including EMI/EMC, dynamics, and thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing.
  • Support launch integration campaigns, including test and integration planning, schedule execution, staffing, and coordination of program activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase production throughput, reduce spacecraft build hours, improve product quality, and eliminate waste from complex manufacturing and integration processes.
  • Apply statistical and analytical tools to monitor team performance, production metrics, and product execution plans.
  • Collaborate across Programs, Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, Quality, and Security to support spacecraft production and delivery targets.
  • Support early design and proposal activities to improve downstream satellite manufacturability, integration, and test execution.
Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Engineering Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combinations of technical education and experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of related professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, assembly sequencing, materials and processes engineering, or a similar technical field within the aerospace, automotive, or commercial industries.
  • Ability to work onsite and support the required rotating shift schedule.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Level 3
    • 7+ years of experience with space systems.
    • Knowledge of satellite manufacturing engineering principles, standards, and concepts.
    • Experience writing work instructions and procedures for critical aerospace components in a production environment.
    • Experience with hardware integration and test tools such as NI LabVIEW, data acquisition (DAQ) hardware, electrical power supplies, signal analyzers, and multimeters.
    • Experience with version control and working knowledge of software development concepts, Python, C++, Linux environments, and computer network architecture.
    • Proficiency with statistics, data analysis, cost-benefit analysis, business intelligence, and data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
    • Experience with manufacturing and program tracking systems such as MRP/ERP, Jira, Microsoft Project, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Teamcenter/PLM, and configuration management tools.
    • Experience using CAD software and interpreting engineering drawings.
    • Experience working with a union-represented workforce.
    • Willingness to work different shifts, travel to launch sites and integration locations, and provide surge support during critical mission milestones.
    • Active U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Level 4
    • 10+ years of experience with space systems.
    • Meet the applicable Level 3 preferred qualifications.
    • First‑hand experience across the complete spacecraft integration and test lifecycle.
    • Proficiency with both mechanical spacecraft assembly and electrical testing.
    • First‑hand experience planning spacecraft test campaigns, including sequence of events, task durations, constraints, dependencies, staffing, and execution.
