Job summary

LASP, part of the University of Colorado Boulder, seeks a Thermal Engineer to design and develop thermal control systems for spaceflight instruments. You will contribute across the full lifecycle from concept to testing, collaborating with scientists and engineers to deliver high-performance space instrumentation for NASA and other missions.

We offer a challenging environment with opportunities to mentor students and work on missions that have traveled to multiple planets.

Qualifications

  • BS or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of aerospace thermal engineering experience.
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop or other thermal analysis tools.
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small to mid-sized instrument or cubesat program with limited guidance.
  • Perform thermal analysis of spaceflight hardware including passive/active systems.
  • Participate in full lifecycle thermal control system design from concept to flight operations.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop system architecture and requirements.
  • Present and defend thermal designs to internal/external review teams.
  • Create technical specifications for procured or subcontracted items.
  • Support assembly, integration, and test activities.
  • Plan and direct thermal vacuum testing, including test plans and post-test correlation.
  • Contribute to thermal analyses for smaller proposals.
