Job summary

Bastion is seeking a System Safety Engineer to support a space program in Houston, TX. You will focus on safety requirements, hazard analyses, and safety reporting to ensure mission success.

The role requires US citizenship, a bachelor's degree in engineering, and 10+ years of related experience in human spaceflight programs. You will manage safety documentation, participate in design reviews, and interface with multiple disciplines to develop robust safety cases.

Qualifications

  • US citizenship required due to customer information sensitivity.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • 10+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience in human spaceflight programs and systems/subsystems.
  • Experience in systems safety working groups (SSWG, WSESRB, SSSTRP).
  • Ability to build and communicate a safety case for redesign/risk acceptance.
  • Experience with requirements management and development, including DOORS and/or CRADL.
  • Ability to interface with customer and program management.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate human-rated hardware and software systems ensuring mission success.
  • Prepare and/or update PHL, PHA, FHAs, SHA, and SAR.
  • Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, TRTs, TIMs, and safety meetings.
  • Support development and updating of System Safety documents for customer/contract requirements.
  • Review and input to test procedures for System Safety compliance.
  • Assist in the Hazard Tracking System (HTS) maintenance for hazards and mitigations.
  • Interface with Reliability Engineering, Software Safety, Quality Engineering, Flight Ops, Logistics & Maintenance, and Subsystem Engineering.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
