Job summary

KBR’s Integrated Protection Strategy Engineer – Senior position is based on site in Springfield, VA, within the National Security Solutions team. The role leads collision avoidance algorithm design and validation, analyzes orbital data, and coordinates maneuvers to protect space assets in dynamic environments.

Ideal candidates hold a Master’s degree with extensive relevant experience (or equivalent) and possess TS/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree with 11+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s with 12+ years or no degree with 14+ years.
• Expertise in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics or related aerospace disciplines.
• Proficiency with conjunction assessment tools and orbital propagation software (STK, FreeFlyer or equivalent).
• Active TS/SCI clearance with adjudicated polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and validation of collision avoidance algorithms and tools.
• Perform conjunction assessments to evaluate collision risk.
• Coordinate with mission ops to plan and execute maneuvers.
• Analyze orbital data and propagate trajectories to predict conjunctions.
• Maintain documentation for collision avoidance processes and protocols.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Interface with government and commercial partners for data exchange.
• Support anomaly resolution and post-event analysis.
• Contribute to automation and accuracy improvements in collision avoidance.
• Ensure compliance with space safety standards and regulations.
