Job summary

Blue Current in Hayward, CA is seeking a Sr. Cell Engineer to advance composite solid-state cathode technology. You will design and test solid-state cathode materials, integrate new materials with solid electrolytes, and perform electrochemical testing of cells.

The role requires hands-on electrochemistry experience, and a PhD or MS with industry experience or a BS with 5+ years in batteries. You will report to the R&D team and collaborate across disciplines.

Qualifications

• PhD, MS (with 3+ years of industry experience), or BS (with 5+ years of experience) in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field, with a focus on batteries or electrochemical devices.
• Experience in battery R&D with a focus on lithium-ion or solid-state battery systems.
• Hands-on experience assembling cells and performing electrochemical testing to evaluate material and cell performance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and test composite solid-state cathode materials and formulations that improve cell performance and safety.
• Prepare and characterize solid-state cathode composites and slurries using state-of-the-art tools.
• Optimize and engineer composite solid-state cathodes based on interactions with solid electrolytes.
• Assemble solid-state cells and perform electrochemical testing to analyze cathode materials and electrode composition on cell performance.
• Characterize cell materials using SEM, XRD, TGA, FTIR, DSC and electrochemical techniques.
• Document and analyze electrochemical tests and characterization results to measure effects on cell performance.
• Communicate complex results to cross-functional teams and leadership.
• Support a strong safety culture by following laboratory safety practices.
