Job summary

WSB seeks a Sr Solar PV Design Engineer to design construction-ready documentation for utility-scale PV systems of 5-50MW+ and larger. You will deliver high-quality electrical designs, layouts, and analyses to support bidding, permitting, and construction, serving as the electrical engineer of record (EEOR).

You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure code-compliant, efficient PV system designs and prepare complete construction drawings using AutoCAD, while

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5-7+ years designing commercial and/or utility-scale solar PV systems.
• Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) license required.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and CAD platforms; strong power system design knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer utility-scale solar PV and energy storage systems 5-50MW+.
• Prepare construction drawings using AutoCAD and coordinate with clients and utilities.
• Develop wiring diagrams, layouts, and equipment specifications.
• Perform engineering studies (arc flash, coordination, grounding, thermal analysis).
• Support permitting, bidding, and construction activities; respond to RFIs.

What You Will Do

The Sr Solar PV Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing construction‑ready documentation for utility‑scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems of 5-50MW or larger. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality electrical system designs, layout drawings, and engineering analyses that support bidding, permitting, and construction. The engineer collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure code‑compliant, efficient, and reliable PV system designs, and serves as the electrical engineer of record (EEOR).

• Design and engineer utility‑scale solar PV and energy storage (BESS) systems at 5-50MW or higher.
• System layout of modules and equipment.
• Equipment selection and specification development.
• One‑line and three‑line diagrams.
• DC, LVAC and MVAC cable sizing and routing.
• SCADA and communication system design.
• Relay & communication programming: SEL 651, 751, 735, & RTAC.
• Grounding system design.
• Wiring diagrams, trench design, and basic pole design.
• Engineering studies, including, but not limited to arc flash, coordination, grounding, thermal ampacity, lightning risk assessment.
• Prepare complete construction drawings using AutoCAD.
• Coordinate with clients, utilities, permitting authorities, contractors, and partnering engineering firms.
• Support Construction Administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits.
• Manage multiple projects effectively and ensure timely delivery of engineering outputs.

What You Will Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 5-7+ years of experience designing commercial and/or utility‑scale solar PV systems.
• Experience collaborating with construction, technical, and non‑technical teams.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience with AutoCAD, including layer control, dimensioning, scaling, sheet sets, blocks, xrefs, line weights, and file management.
• Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) license required
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (or similar CAD platforms).
• Proficiency with power system design and modeling software (e.g., Etap, CYMCAP, WinGIS, PSCAD, PSS/E, CDEGS).
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and design tools.
