Job summary

Illumina is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Test for a remote US role. You will design and maintain test frameworks for Illumina’s primary analysis software and work with developers to adapt tests to changes in the software.

You will write production-quality Python or C# code, automate tests, and expand coverage while ensuring tests are clear, documented, and maintainable. A bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field is required, with 5+ years of software/testing experience.

Qualifications

• Experience developing production-quality code using Python or C#.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools, workflows, and troubleshooting them.
• Prior background in writing and maintaining automation for complex systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers on and outside the team.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain custom test frameworks used to run and test Illumina’s primary analysis software.
• Work with the development team to understand new software changes and adapt tests.
• Identify gaps in existing tests and proactively develop new tests to improve reliability and coverage.
• Investigate test failures, triage issues, and work with developers to diagnose root causes.
• Expand and maintain test coverage as primary analysis capabilities evolve.
• Ensure tests are clear, well-documented, reproducible - supporting long-term maintainability.
