Job summary

Upstart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Unsecured Installments team, focused on frontend and full-stack experiences used by borrowers. You will design, implement, and deliver large projects in React and TypeScript, collaborating with product, design, and backend engineers to create scalable, high-quality user journeys.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep proficiency building complex web apps with React and TypeScript, including component architecture and state management.
• Experience designing backend services and APIs in Python, Java, Kotlin, Ruby, or Node.js.
• Led the design and delivery of large frontend or full-stack projects in production.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of large frontend and full-stack initiatives using React and TypeScript, from planning to launch and maintenance.
• Set technical direction for frontend architecture and full-stack patterns with 3–6 month roadmaps.
• Collaborate with product, design, and backend engineers to translate roadmap priorities into scalable experiences.
• Raise the bar for engineering excellence through component and API design, state management, testing, observability, and operations.
• Lead through ambiguity, breaking down problems into testable plans and using data to inform tradeoffs.
• Mentor other engineers via code and design reviews and cross-team collaboration.
• Contribute to AI in development workflows and product capabilities.
