Job summary

nextSource seeks a senior engineer to design, build, and maintain accessible interfaces for enterprise web applications in a .NET environment.

You will ensure WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508 compliance, test with screen readers, and collaborate with stakeholders across design, QA and operations to deliver robust, accessible software.

Qualifications

• 5 to 8+ years of professional software development with a significant front-end/UI focus
• Hands-on experience implementing and testing to WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508, including ARIA, semantic HTML, keyboard navigation and screen reader testing
• Knowledge of information architecture, interaction design, visual hierarchy and usability best practices
• Strong C# and ASP.NET MVC 5, full-stack .NET development in Windows environment, OOP and design patterns
• Data and APIs: SQL Server data modeling, T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views; building and consuming RESTful APIs

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing screens and workflows; design solutions to improve usability and data quality
• Build to WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508; test with screen readers and keyboard navigation
• Work across the stack in C# and SQL Server; integrate front ends with internal/external systems via RESTful APIs
• Write technical design specs, unit tests, and documentation; support QA and releases

Job description

The right fit is a senior engineer who has built interfaces to WCAG standards, tested them with screen readers, and can work independently in an established .NET codebase with minimal ramp-up.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain accessible interfaces for enterprise web applications, using DevExpress components where they fit
• Analyze existing screens and workflows, then design solutions that improve usability, data quality, and operational efficiency
• Build to WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508, and test with screen readers and keyboard navigation
• Work across the stack in C# and SQL Server, and integrate front ends with internal and external systems through RESTful APIs
• Write technical design specs, unit tests, and documentation, and support QA, usability testing, and releases
• Partner with business stakeholders, customers, designers, operations, and other technology teams

What you'll need

• Experience: 5 to 8+ years of professional software development, with a significant focus on front-end and UI work
• Accessibility: Hands-on experience implementing and testing to WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508, including ARIA, semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, focus management, and testing with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
• UI/UX: Information architecture, interaction design, visual hierarchy, and usability best practices applied to real product interfaces
• .NET: Strong C# and ASP.NET MVC 5, full-stack .NET development and support in a Windows environment, and a solid grasp of OOP, design patterns, and core computer science principles
• Data and APIs: SQL Server database design and data modeling, T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and views, plus building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Education: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to have

• DevExpress UI components and reporting tools
• Training or certification in UX design, accessibility (such as IAAP CPACC or WAS), or human-centered design
• Running or supporting usability tests, accessibility audits, or design reviews
• Figma or Adobe XD, and turning designs into accessible front-end code
• Maintaining or modernizing legacy .NET applications, especially the front-end layer
• Agile/Scrum, Git, and CI/CD pipelines with automated deployments
• Financial aid, student systems, or higher education data
• Advocating for users and accessibility with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Hourly Pay Rate: $80-$90
