Job description

Skimmer is on a mission: to modernize the pool and spa service and repair industry. We're a private equity-backed company with 6000+ customers using Skimmer's pool service platform to transform their businesses. But we're not stopping there (there are over 70,000 pool service companies in this surprisingly large "niche" space). Our customers love us almost as much as we love them (check out our reviews and our NPS score of 68!). We were recently honored to join the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies, the Deloitte Fast 500, were named one of Built In Austin's Best Startups, as well as Austin's Best Places for Working Parents. We're looking for big thinkers with small egos, so let's dive in!

Our Values:
  • Realize our customers' success is our success.
  • Build humble, diverse teams who have fun winning.
  • Drive results with urgency.
  • Earn trust through transparent communication.
Who are you? / About You

You're a quality professional who thinks upstream. You don't wait for UAT to find problems - you're the person asking hard questions about acceptance criteria before a line of code is written. You bring a natural instinct for risk, a sharp eye for ambiguity, and the communication skills to turn both into action with product and engineering. You're comfortable with AI-assisted tooling, but you know that agents do the first draft and humans make the final call. You care about getting it right the first time, and you understand that quality is fastest when it's built in from the start.

In this role, you'll partner with product and engineering at the story level - shaping what "done" means before development begins. You'll use AI-generated test cases as a starting point, applying your expertise to review and improve them. You'll own quality signal across the development lifecycle, from AC review to pull request sign-off, and help us build toward a world where deployment isn't a ceremony - it's a condition that gets met.

You will be joining a company with a collaborative culture, focus on customers, and emphasis on having a good time together!

What you'll do:
  • Collaborate with product managers to review acceptance criteria and user stories before development begins, flagging gaps, ambiguities, and untestable requirements early
  • Design and write thorough test cases grounded in user flows, edge cases, and risk - not just happy paths
  • Work alongside developers throughout the build - reviewing test coverage, participating in pull request reviews, and ensuring nothing ships untested
  • Execute exploratory testing with intent and discipline - going beyond scripted test cases to surface what structured testing misses
  • Track and interpret quality trends - bug rates, test coverage, defect escape patterns - and bring that signal into team conversations
  • Communicate clearly with product, engineering, and leadership - translating quality findings into plain language that drives decisions
  • Contribute to building and improving our test automation coverage, and help shape what good automation looks like on our team
Your Experience:
  • Strong foundation in test case design and deep QA experience from product design to launch
  • An AI-forward approach to test; strong demonstration of usage of Claude, Replit, Sigma, and other AI-first tooling.
  • Strong comfort with test automation frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, Appium, or similar) and an understanding of how automation fits into a broader quality strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to read requirements critically - catching what's missing, ambiguous, or likely to cause problems before testing begins
  • Experience with exploratory and risk-based testing - you approach testing with curiosity and structure, not just a checklist
  • Comfortable working closely with developers - reviewing code changes for testability, participating in pull request reviews, and building shared ownership of quality
  • Able to interpret quality data - defect trends, test coverage gaps, production escapes - and use it to have informed conversations about where the team should focus
  • Strong communicator who can speak to quality across audiences - engineers, product managers, and leadership - without losing the thread
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar agile project tracking tools
Benefits
  • Competitive base pay + bonus potential
  • Generous medical, dental, and vision plans (we pay 100% of your premium and 50% of your dependents')
  • Fantastic culture with a very strong eNPS- we work hard, celebrate wins, and learn as we go to always be improving to benefit our customers.
  • Immediate access to 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO (MINIMUM of 10 days required every year)12 weeks paid parental leave for birthing parent, 6 weeks paid leave for supporting partner
  • Remote work friendly
  • Comprehensive learning and development budget
  • A manager dedicated to your development

At Skimmer we are deeply committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace (it's in our values). We're proud to be an equal oppo
