Job summary

Expedition Technology (EXP) seeks a Senior Software Engineer/Tech Lead to own end-to-end delivery of mission-critical systems for the US government. You will shape architecture, deploy pipelines, and drive observability across cloud-native apps in Kubernetes.

You’ll mentor teams, collaborate with stakeholders, and apply AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity while upholding high quality and ownership of solutions.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship required for clearance.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance preferred/required.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong foundation in software architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience delivering production software and cloud deployments.
• Proficient with containerized apps and Kubernetes.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Cloud experience in AWS with observability and monitoring.
• Proven leadership and collaboration across teams.

At Expedition Technology (EXP), we're looking for a Senior Software Engineer/Tech Lead to help design, build, and deliver mission-critical systems supporting the United States Government.

This role is for engineers who think beyond writing code. Successful candidates understand that great systems require thoughtful architecture, maintainable software, reliable deployment pipelines, strong observability, and operational resilience. You are comfortable moving between application development, cloud-native platforms, deployment automation, and technical leadership as mission needs evolve.

EXP is an AI-enabled engineering organization. We encourage engineers to leverage modern AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenCode, and similar technologies as part of their daily workflow. Successful candidates should be comfortable using these tools to improve productivity while maintaining strong technical judgment, code quality, and ownership of delivered solutions.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement scalable software systems, services, and internal tools using Python and modern engineering practices
• Lead architectural decisions across application, deployment, infrastructure, and operational domains
• Design systems with maintainability, security, resiliency, scalability, and observability as first-class concerns
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation workflows
• Design, deploy, and support cloud-native applications running in containerized and Kubernetes-based environments
• Establish and champion engineering best practices around testing, automation, monitoring, reliability, and software quality
• Collaborate with software engineers, platform engineers, and mission stakeholders to deliver complete solutions
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across development, deployment, and production environments
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across projects and teams
• Contribute to verification, validation, testing, and evaluation environments supporting mission needs

Skills And Experience You Bring

• U.S. Citizenship - must be a US citizen to fulfill clearance requirements
• Active TS/SCI security clearance
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Expertise in one or more modern programming languages and the ability to quickly become productive in new technology stacks
• Strong software engineering fundamentals independent of language or framework
• Experience designing and delivering production software systems
• Strong background in software architecture, system integration, and distributed systems
• Experience building, deploying, and supporting containerized applications
• Experience deploying and operating applications in Kubernetes-based environments
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation solutions
• Experience implementing monitoring, logging, tracing, and observability capabilities
• Experience operating within cloud environments such as AWS
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and technical leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Infrastructure-as-Code experience using AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies
• GitLab CI/CD experience
• OpenTelemetry experience
• Experience supporting highly available or mission-critical systems
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers
• Experience incorporating AI-assisted development tools into engineering workflows
