Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer on the Stablecoin team to build and scale CCS, enabling partners to launch branded, USDC-backed stablecoins on Coinbase's infrastructure. You will operate at the intersection of backend services and on-chain contracts.

You will own smart contracts for minting and burning, develop backend onboarding and reserves tooling, and collaborate with product and design to ship quarterly features while upholding security, auditability, and performance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience including backend services.
• Experience writing, testing, and deploying smart contracts (Solidity or similar) in production.
• End-to-end service ownership and SOA at scale.
• Security tradeoffs in on-chain systems: audits, upgradeability, access control, key management.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Stablecoin team within the Developer group, you'll help build and scale Coinbase Custom Stablecoins (CCS), the platform that lets partners launch their own branded, USDC-backed stablecoins on Coinbase's infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering and smart contract development - you'll own the services and onchain contracts that power issuance, reserves, minting and burning, and rewards distribution for a fast-growing roster of partners.

What you'll do:

• Own and evolve the smart contracts that mint, burn, and safeguard custom stablecoin supply, shipping changes in a secure and auditable way.

• Build and scale backend services that power onboarding, issuance, reserve accounting, and rewards distribution.

• Partner with product, design, and tech leads to turn the stablecoin roadmap into shipped features every quarter.

• Drive architectural decisions across the backend and smart contract surface, balancing security, scalability, and speed of delivery.

• Write high-quality, well-tested code and raise the bar for operational excellence across the team.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including designing, building, and operating production backend services.

• Experience writing, testing, and deploying smart contracts (Solidity or similar EVM languages) in production, ideally where real economic value was at stake.

• Comfort owning a service end to end and composing service-oriented architecture at scale.

• Working knowledge of security and correctness tradeoffs unique to onchain systems - audits, upgradeability, access control, and key management.

• Familiarity with Golang and onchain fundamentals (Ethereum or similar), with direct experience building DeFi or stablecoin infrastructure preferred.

• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$186,065—$218,900 USD
