Job summary

Aurora Solar is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to advance PV and storage design tools. Lead features end-to-end from discovery to release, proposing mathematical approaches to hard problems and driving simulation work with a team that prioritizes correctness and impact.

This role blends software engineering with applied math, directly affecting solar designs used by thousands of installers and homeowners.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend foundation.
• Academic background or equivalent skillset in computational mathematics, optimization, linear algebra, control theory, or numerical algorithms.
• Hands-on experience with simulation or optimization.
• Experience designing and building APIs, microservices, or data pipelines at scale.
• Sharp algorithmic thinking with focus on performance, correctness, and edge cases.
• Proficiency in backend languages (C++, Python, Ruby) and related tech.
• Strong written and verbal communication for collaboration in a distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the backend systems and computation engines behind Aurora's solar and electrical design workflows.
• Advance simulation and optimization across PV and battery storage layout, component selection, and configuration.
• Partner with product managers, designers, researchers, and engineers to convert complex models into reliable software.
• Shape architecture of simulation and computation infrastructure for scale and maintainability.
• Write clean, well-tested code and raise engineering bar through established patterns.
• Mentor teammates and participate in code reviews and design documents.
• Own services end-to-end, including on-call rotation.
