Job summary

Google is seeking software engineers to contribute to next-generation search personalization and related AI-driven features. You will work on production systems that scale to billions of users, focusing on improving personalization signals, ranking, and information retrieval models.

You will join a high-visibility team with deadlines aligned to regulations and company initiatives, and may switch teams as projects evolve. In-person interviews are part of the process in many cases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of software development in C++, Java, or Python.
• 3 years developing search quality algorithms, ranking systems, or information retrieval models.
• 3 years building personalization algorithms or recommendation systems in production.
• 3 years testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year in design/architecture.
• 1 year of GenAI techniques or related concepts.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical roadmap for Search Personalization quality components across AI Mode and apply them in AI Overviews.
• Solve personalization triggering problems by understanding query intent, user context, and real-world context to expand Personal Intelligence across queries.
• Improve personalization signal quality by designing and validating solutions for accurate signals via context engineering and ranking.
• Collaborate with the personalization evaluation team and AI Experience quality team to accelerate personalization wins.
• Work with Product Managers and Analysts across organizations to understand limitations and design scalable personalization solutions.

Job description

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in C++, Java, or Python.
• 3 years of experience in developing search quality algorithms, ranking systems, or information retrieval models.
• 3 years of experience in building, scaling, and deploying personalization algorithms or recommendation systems in production environments.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• 1 year of experience with state of the art GenAI techniques (e.g., LLMs, Multi-Modal, Large Vision Models) or with GenAI-related concepts (language modeling, computer vision).

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms, and software development using Kotlin.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
• 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
• Experience with quality changes for large-scale consumer features or products, including prior experience developing on Search infrastructure.
• Ability to work on a central, high-visibility team, with deadlines driven by regulations and company-wide product initiatives.

• Work with the personalization evaluation team and AI Experience (AIX) quality team to accelerate personalization wins and benefit horizontal AIX quality.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers and Analysts, and across organizations (Infrastructure, Evaluation, Trust, Search Platforms, and Verticals) to understand technical limitations and design solutions that drive personalization expansion and response quality.
