Job summary

Google is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Search AI Quality, to advance live event factuality, freshness, and relevance across high-visibility queries. You will work with cross-functional teams including Search Verticals, Search Intelligence, and DeepMind to identify quality gaps and deploy automated evaluation and experimentation to improve AI-driven results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience programming in one or more general-purpose programming languages including, but not limited to, Java, C/C++, Python, JavaScript, or Go.
  • Experience conducting exploratory data analysis using programming languages (e.g., R, Python) and database querying (e.g., SQL).
  • Experience evaluating search quality or user interaction data to improve query relevance and search results.
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field (preferred).
  • Experience developing applications using Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic architectures, or Generative AI evaluation methodologies (preferred).
  • Experience leading technical projects through the full development lifecycle (preferred).
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners to prioritize tasks and communicate progress (preferred).
  • Experience applying AI-assisted development tools or autonomous agent coding to build features (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Improve Search AI quality for Live Events Factuality and Freshness.
  • Collaborate with Search Verticals, Search Intelligence, and DeepMind to fix high-visibility queries.
  • Engage in horizontal factuality programs across Search and GDM.
  • Build or enhance automated evals to detect errors and enable self-improvement loops.
  • Design experiments to improve quality and reduce errors in AI-generated responses.

US: $174000 - $252000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities
  • Focus on improving Search AI quality in Verticals, specifically Live Events Factuality and Freshness for topics like live sports, stock quotes, weather, and travel.
  • Work closely with teams across Search Verticals, Search Intelligence, and DeepMind to address critical quality gaps on high-visibility queries in Search and AI Mode.
  • Engage in horizontal factuality quality programs across Search and GDM, and proactively identify new factuality quality gaps within Vertical slices.
  • Build or enhance automated evals to speed up error detection and establish self-improvement loops.
  • Design and run experiments to enhance quality and minimize errors in AI-generated responses, while actively representing Search Verticals and Infrastructure (SVI) in cross-Search forums.
