Job summary

Kunai, a technology partner for banks and fintech ecosystems, seeks an experienced Scala Engineer to join our growing team in the United States. You will help build high‑quality, production‑grade backend services and data streaming pipelines using functional Scala across the stack.

You’ll collaborate with agile teams to deliver cloud-based solutions on AWS, write robust code, and push for continuous improvement in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 4+ years of hands-on functional programming experience (Scala preferred).
• 2+ years of AWS experience, including DynamoDB.

Kunai is seeking a skilled Scala Engineer to join our growing engineering team. What You’ll Do:

• Design and develop scalable, immutable, and distributed systems with a focus on data streaming and backend services using functional Scala.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to build and deliver robust, cloud-based solutions, leveraging AWS infrastructure and modern development practices.

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of professional experience in software application development.
• 4+ years of hands-on experience with functional programming (e.g., Scala, Haskell, Clojure, Common Lisp).
• 2+ years of experience working with AWS, including services like DynamoDB.

Bonus Points For:

• Familiarity with the ZIO framework.
• Prior experience in fintech or banking environments.
• 4+ years working with open-source web technologies.
• 2+ years of experience in performance tuning and monitoring.
• 1+ years working with CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling.
• Hands-on experience optimizing high-scale server systems.
• AWS Developer or Architect Certification.
