Job summary

GovCIO is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications for the VA Data Modernization initiative. This fully remote role is based in the United States and requires strong Java, JavaScript, and cloud skills.

You will mentor mid-level engineers, collaborate with architects and product teams, and drive scalable, secure solutions with modern CI/CD practices in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or related field; 12+ years experience.
• Expertise with Java frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JPA.
• Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript.
• RESTful web services and API design.
• Version control with Git (GitHub/ADO).
• Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and ORM tools.
• Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and TDD.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to identify and document requirements.
• Utilize Agile methods to manage and deliver modernization work.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to mid-level engineers.
• Define technical solutions with architects and product managers.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices in software engineering.
• Optimize performance, scalability, and maintainability of applications.
• Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and deployment.
• Work with DevOps to improve delivery pipelines and automation.
• Ensure security, reliability, and compliance through thoughtful design.
• Participate in system architecture discussions and key decisions.
• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues in all environments.
