Toast is seeking a software engineer to join the Release Engineering team, focusing on building and improving CI/CD pipelines that empower developers to ship faster and with confidence. The role emphasizes Go or Java/Kotlin, testing best practices, and an Agile mindset within a hybrid U.S. work environment.

You will lead multi-person projects, mentor peers, and work with AWS infrastructure while leveraging AI tools to enhance delivery quality and reliability across production deployments.

The mission of the Release Engineering team is “to empower Toasters to build and deploy software with speed, confidence, and joy.” We create digital assembly lines that transform code into polished products. We build scalable, secure, and automated release pipelines that turbocharge our software delivery and ensure compliance and reliability from first commit to production deployment. We are looking for a software engineer to join in our mission!

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Be part of a team working collaboratively to optimize build and deployment automation tools for developers
• Create and implement CI/CD solutions that ensure release quality and security
• Lead complex projects with multiple contributors and stakeholders
• Participate in team on-call rotation to respond to production alerts for the team’s systems
• Mentor and coach other team members

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• Proficiency in Go, Java/Kotlin or other modern language(s) with a strong understanding of testing, quality and best practices
• Ability to dive into a breadth of problems in various programming languages

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits. You can learn more about how we align pay with local labor markets in our Geographic Pay Zone Philosophy.

Zone A$159,000-$254,000 USD

Zone B$138,000-$221,000 USD

Zone C$125,000-$200,000 USD
