Job summary

Toast is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Delivery Services team in a hybrid role based on the US East Coast, with Boston or New York preferred and remote options available.

You will design, build, and operate scalable real-time services that find drivers, price deliveries, and handle refunds, using Kotlin/Java, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and modern microservice architectures.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Kotlin or Java and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB) and schema design.
• Understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and messaging.
• Proven track record delivering reliable services to production.
• Comfort with real-world timing and imperfect data in interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain highly resilient and scalable systems for our Delivery Services.
• Build real-time backbone to track orders and driver interactions.
• Collaborate with PMs and designers on pricing, refunds, and money movement.
• Address scaling challenges and implement robust solutions.
• Advocate for best coding practices and mentor teammates.
• Provide technical guidance to the team.
