Job summary

Ottimate is seeking a Backend Engineer to contribute to new product efforts using Django, PostgreSQL, and AWS. You will help plan, build, and ship features, fix complex issues, and migrate modules to micro-services while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You should have 3+ years of web backend experience, be proficient in Python and Django, and thrive in an early-stage startup environment. Fintech and accounting domain exposure are a plus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience building web applications using modern software engineering practices.
• Proficient in Python and Django.
• Able to debug complex database performance issues.
• Think critically about both technical and user impact to improve the product.
• Proven track record of building scalable backends and communicating clearly.

Responsibilities

• Discuss, plan, build and test new features.
• Bring in learnings from previous roles to fintech innovations.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and stakeholders on UX.
• Triage and fix bugs, often directly with users.
• Manage code reviews via Pull Requests while ensuring unit tests and quality.
• Help migrate modules into independent micro-services.

The Role:

Ottimate’s mission is to make accounts payables and payments effortless for businesses. We are looking for a Backend Engineer to contribute to our new product efforts and help us take ideas to market. Our stack is based on Django, Angular, Postgres, and AWS. Expertise in Django is must. Planning, shipping, and learning are the most important traits we are looking for.

You will:

• Discuss, plan, build and test new features.
• Bring in learnings from your previous roles and experiences to help build exciting new fintech innovations for businesses everywhere
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and other stakeholders in defining the user experience.
• Triage and fix bugs, often working directly with users.
• Manage code reviews through Pull Requests and make sure we’re moving fast while maintaining Unit Tests and quality.
• Help migrate some of the modules into independent micro-services.
• Work on product features that affect 10s of thousands of customers.

Skills and Experience:

• 3+ years of professional experience working on web applications using modern software engineering processes.
• Proficient in Python and Django.
• Debugging complex database performance issues.
• You think critically about your work and ask questions in order to improve the product, not only on its technical implementation but also on how well it’s serving the users’ needs.
• You have built performant and scalable backends, made pragmatic tradeoffs, and can point to your prior work.
• You have strong communication skills and are able to explain complex technical topics to the entire team in a clear and concise way.
• When things inevitably break, you eagerly jump in to diagnose and fix the core issues.
• Experience working in an early-stage startup is a huge plus.
