Metropolis Technologies in Seattle seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the Product Foundations team. You will architect and build Metropolis Web Services, solving complex distributed systems challenges and supporting our growth into new markets. This role requires deep expertise in Java and distributed systems, along with a collaborative spirit to mentor teammates.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience with deep focus on distributed systems and platform infrastructure.
• Demonstrate expert-level Java proficiency with deep understanding of JVM performance, concurrency, and ecosystem tooling.
• Possess production experience with microservices architecture, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS).
• Exhibit strong systems thinking with proven ability to design and implement large-scale, high-availability distributed systems.
• Demonstrate observability expertise including hands-on production experience with metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the core services of Metropolis Web Services.
• Build and maintain service mesh infrastructure for secure communication between microservices.
• Create sophisticated developer tooling and CI/CD pipelines.
• Make critical technical decisions about service boundaries and API design.
• Architect and optimize systems for high throughput and low latency.
