Job summary

CLEAR is building the secure identity platform of the future. We seek a Senior Software Engineer to scale our network infrastructure and cloud-native systems on AWS, focusing on reliability, scalability, and simplicity.

You will own the infrastructure, collaborate with multiple teams, and drive improvements in networking, service mesh, and monitoring using tools like Datadog and Splunk. This role is based in New York with remote-friendly options.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of extensive experience in infrastructure and platform development, particularly in software-defined networking and AWS cloud services.
• Proficient in writing production-grade software using Python, with strong understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration tools like EKS and ECS.
• Well-versed in cloud-native design principles and AWS networking services, including VPC design, SGs, NATGWs, ALBs/ELBs, Route53, and security features like AWS Network Firewall and AWS WAF.
• Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation, and a strong product and user-centric mindset.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (ISO Layer, BGP, RIP) and Linux systems (Bash, Filesystems).
• Familiarity with networking appliances (Palo Alto) and configuring Nginx as reverse proxy/load balancer.
• Experience with API Gateway solutions and deploying Cloudflare or Fastly for CDN/edge security.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain streamlined processes for engineers to build and deploy scalable, reliable software-defined networking on AWS.
• Enhance the compute platform (Kubernetes) by integrating new functionalities with AWS networking concepts and service mesh (Istio).
• Collaborate across teams to implement observability using Datadog or Splunk for robust network monitoring.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Network Engineering team to accelerate building and scaling our innovative systems that support our growing identity platform. In this role, you will build the next-generation infrastructure that underpins all systems at CLEAR. The ideal candidate for this role will approach challenges with an eye toward reliability, simplicity, and scalability.

What You'll Do:

• Develop and maintain a streamlined process for engineers to effortlessly build and deploy scalable and reliable software-defined networking solutions on AWS.
• Enhance our compute platform (Kubernetes) by integrating new functionalities and features, focusing on AWS networking services and concepts such as VPCs, Route Tables, Security Groups (SGs), ALBs/ELBs, and Route53, as well as implementing Kubernetes networking solutions like service mesh (Istio) to optimize service communication and management.
• Collaborate across engineering teams to advocate for and implement best practices in observability, utilizing tools like Splunk or Datadog to ensure robust network monitoring.
• Act as a product owner for our infrastructure, collecting feedback and requirements from engineering teams to address pain points and develop solutions, particularly in the realm of AWS networking and cloud-native design principles.

What you're great at:

• Proficient in writing production-grade software using modern languages such as Python, with a strong understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration tools like EKS and ECS.

• Experienced with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or Cloudformation, and possess a strong product and user-centric mindset.
• Committed to continuously improving systems and environments, with a solid understanding of networking concepts (ISO Layer, BGP, RIP, etc.) and Linux systems (Bash, Filesystems, etc.).
• Equipped with an understanding of and experience with traditional networking appliances and equipment, such as Palo Alto, to effectively maintain connectivity at scale.
• Skilled in configuring and managing Nginx as a reverse proxy and load balancer to optimize application delivery and performance.
• Experienced in implementing and managing API Gateway solutions to facilitate secure and scalable API management.
• Knowledgeable in deploying and managing cloud solutions such as Cloudflare or Fastly to enhance web performance and security through CDN and edge computing capabilities.

The base salary range for this role is $175,000 - $215,000, depending on levels of skills and experience. The base salary range represents the low and high end of CLEAR’s salary range for this position. Salaries will vary depending on various factors which include, but are not limited to location, education, skills, experience and performance. The range listed is just one component of CLEAR’s total compensation package for employees and other rewards may include annual bonuses, commission, Restricted Stock Units.
