Job summary

Inductive Automation, LLC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I (Java) to design, implement, and maintain software across the product lifecycle. The role involves collaborating with customers as needed and contributing to architecture and testing efforts.

This full-time, hybrid position requires in-office collaboration two days per week and is ideally located near Folsom, CA, with access to the Sacramento region. You will mentor peers and help deliver scalable, high-quality software.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of software engineering or software development experience.
  • Strong CS fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, and cybersecurity concepts.
  • Hands-on programming in Java and/or TypeScript.
  • Experience with IntelliJ, Git, Webpack or equivalent toolchain.
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end lifecycle of features from design to deployment.
  • Improve code structure and architecture for testability and maintainability.
  • Write or review design documentation and participate in code reviews.
  • Collaborate with team and adjacent teams to solve problems; escalate when needed.

Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer I (Java) (Senior Software Engineer I (Historian)) is responsible for creating and maintaining software that is sold by Inductive Automation, LLC. They participate in all phases of product development, including design, specification, implementation, testing, building, deployment, documentation, support, and maintenance. This role may be required to interact with customers to troubleshoot products or obtain requirements.

Note:This is a full-time, hybrid position with regular in-office collaboration, typically two days per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We're seeking candidates located in or near Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, or Alameda Counties who can commute to our Folsom, CA office.

Responsibilities

  • Independently responsible for the entire lifecycle of projects or features including engineering design, development, and deployment

  • Improving code structure and architecture in service of testability and maintainability

  • Writing, co-writing, and reviewing design documentation

  • Maintaining high proficiency in one or more technical areas

  • Prioritizing and valuing unowned or undesirable work that enables the team to move faster

  • Ensuring work meets quality standard

  • Working with their team and adjacent teams to solve problems

  • Escalating problems that have wider scope

  • Assisting and teaching other engineers on an individual basis

  • Completing thoughtful and constructive code reviews in a timely manner

  • Responsible for one or more product areas or other IC leadership role (Product Lead, Scrum Master)

Requirements

Required:

  • 3-5 years of software engineering or software development experience, preferably in a related field

  • A comprehensive understanding of computer science concepts and ability to apply expertise in object-oriented design, multi-threaded architecture, data structures, algorithms, and cybersecurity

  • Hands-on programming experience using relevant languages (Java and/or Typescript)

  • Experience using relevant tool suites. (IntelliJ or equivalent, Git, Webpack)

  • Proficiency in SQL or a relational database (querying, schema design, stored procedures)

  • Experience ingesting data at scale (high-volume, high-frequency, or streaming data pipelines)

  • Creative problem-solving skills

  • Passionate about building applications that delight users

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience working on a team using agile methodologies

  • Proper utilization of programming concepts to support highly responsive and performant applications, including concurrency and multi-threading

Strongly Preferred:

  • Familiarity with time-series data concepts (compression, interpolation, aggregation, deadband)

  • Knowledge of industrial data standards (OPC-DA, OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus)

  • Experience writing historian connectors, adapters, or APIs

  • Background in data pipeline or ETL development for operational data
