Elsevier is seeking a collaborative Sr Software Engineer to join our mission-driven Health Markets team in the United States. You’ll design full-stack solutions with React on the frontend and Node.js/Express on the backend, building scalable, robust APIs and automated tests.

Qualifications

• Professional software development experience in full-stack JavaScript.
• Experience with Node.js and Express.js for API development.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency with GitHub workflows, PRs, issue tracking, and collaboration.
• Experience with linting and automated testing (Jest, Mocha, or similar).
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and cross-functional teams.
• Experience with front-end tooling and state management libraries (e.g., Redux).
• Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases and ORM/query builders.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable web applications using React on the frontend and Node.js/Express.js on the backend.
• Translating product requirements into well-architected, maintainable code and robust APIs.
• Implementing automated tests (unit/integration) and ensure code quality through reviews and best practices.
• Collaborating in an Agile/Scrum environment: participate in standups, sprints planning, backlog grooming, and demos.
• Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and release processes; work with Jenkins to build, test, and deploy features.
• Writing and maintaining comprehensive documentation, including code comments, README updates, and API specs.
• Troubleshooting production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implementing long-term fixes.
• Mentoring junior engineers and sharing knowledge to uplift the team’s skills and coding standards.
• Collaborating with QA to define and implement test strategies and acceptance criteria.
