Job summary

Planet seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the GMS App Team to span frontend and backend work across the full stack, delivering real-time monitoring and analytics on customer-defined sites built atop Planet's satellite data.

You will design features, develop in React/TypeScript/Python, mentor peers, and own end-to-end delivery including deployment and production support. Must have 10+ years' experience and geospatial background.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 10+ years of relevant work experience building and operating web apps end-to-end.
• Experience designing, building, and operating backend services and REST APIs in production.
• Ability to lead feature implementation from discovery through deployment and production support.
• Experience mentoring teammates on engineering best practices.
• Background in geospatial technologies, remote sensing, or defense/intelligence sectors.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features across the full stack, from UI to API and data layers.
• Develop and maintain applications using React, TypeScript, and Python.
• Build and evolve APIs and services powering the application, including data access and geospatial integrations.

• The Global Monitoring Service (GMS) App Team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work across the full stack of our application. We are looking for an individual who can contribute deep technical expertise across frontend and backend systems and provide mentorship to ensure adherence to engineering best practices
• The GMS App Team is responsible for providing a customized application for Defense & Intelligence customers from around the world. This application provides daily, near-real time monitoring and analytic insights on customer-defined sites built atop Planet's satellite data
• Design and implement features across the full stack, from user interface through API and data layers
• Develop and maintain applications using React, TypeScript, and Python
• Build and evolve the APIs and services that power the application, including data access and integration with upstream geospatial systems
• Mentor other engineers through code reviews and technical discussions
• Drive architectural decisions spanning frontend and backend, including component design, state management, API contracts, and service boundaries
• Own features end to end, including deployment, observability, and production support
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to deliver solutions

• Proficiency with React, TypeScript, and component-based frontend architecture
