Qualifications

About the Role

Capital One Software is seeking a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about marrying innovation with emerging technologies. In 2022, we publicly announced Capital One Software and have since brought two of our B2B software solutions to market; Slingshot and Databolt. Building on Capital One’s pioneering adoption of modern cloud and data capabilities, Capital One Software is helping accelerate the data management journey at scale for businesses operating in the cloud. We’ve built tools to address challenges such as data publishing, data consumption, data governance, and infrastructure management.

What You’ll Do

• Lead a diverse set of technology projects and a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices, latency‑sensitive applications, and full‑stack systems to create robust, cloud‑native, resilient, and highly scalable solutions in data management and security domains.
• Write high‑quality code and perform code and design reviews.
• Share your passion for writing high‑quality code, staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community.
• Promote a culture of engineering excellence and well‑managed solutions, using opportunities to reuse and inner‑source solutions where possible. Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions.
• Be the guiding force for stakeholders in design and architecture discussions, helping the engineering teams make key technology choices, and staying associated with the use case through its development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with architects and product managers, and deliver robust cloud‑based solutions that drive powerful experiences for our customers.
• Utilize programming languages such as Java, Python, Node, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, and Rust, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• At least 3 years of experience in software engineering (internship experience does not apply).

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, or Rust.
• 1+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
• 3+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
• 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.

Salary and Incentives

Remote (Regardless of Location): $144,200 – $164,600 for Principal Associate Senior Software Engineer; $144,200 – $164,600 for Senior Software Engineer.

Richmond, VA: $144,200 – $164,600 for Principal Associate Senior Software Engineer; $144,200 – $164,600 for Senior Software Engineer.

This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan.
