Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack

FullTime Round Rock, TX, US

Job Purpose/Summary

The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer will provide hands‑on technical leadership for the design and delivery of intuitive, reliable web interfaces for our next‑generation data analytics platform. They will translate complex data‑management and operational workflows into clear, secure user experiences that help operators, analysts, data scientists, and administrators upload, inspect, ingest, organize, export, and monitor large telemetry datasets and model‑derived results.

Working closely with Product, backend and platform engineers, machine learning engineers, infrastructure engineers, and customer‑facing teams, the engineer will be a lead contributor to the frontend design process from intake of approved functional specifications through technical specification generation, implementation, verification, release, and production support. They will identify ambiguities and dependencies, design interfaces and components, resolve API and workflow decisions, and create durable documentation and design decision records.

This is a senior individual‑contributor role with no direct reports. The engineer will develop and maintain new and existing components, provide peer mentorship, and reinforce standards for code design, review, testing, accessibility, security, performance, and maintainability. Success in year one includes improving the quality and predictability of frontend delivery, reinforcing our repeatable functional‑to‑technical specification process, maintaining clear architectural records, and delivering production‑ready user experiences that operate reliably in cloud‑native and disconnected or air‑gapped environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Functional specification intake: Review functional specifications and product requirements for completeness, feasibility, user intent, acceptance criteria, edge cases, dependencies, and operational constraints; lead clarification with Product and stakeholders before implementation begins.
  • Technical specification generation: Translate approved functional specifications into implementation‑ready frontend technical specifications covering user flows, routes, components, state, API interactions, permissions, error behavior, accessibility, performance, test strategy, rollout, and observability.
  • Frontend code design: Define scalable application boundaries, component and state patterns, data‑access abstractions, failure‑handling behavior, and integration approaches that support maintainable delivery as the platform evolves.
  • Design decision records: Create and maintain concise frontend engineering decision records that document context, alternatives, trade‑offs, selected approaches, consequences, and follow‑on work.
  • Data upload and ingest workflows: Guide and implement input data management and ingest user experience flows.
  • Data management workflows: Guide and implement data inspection, correlation, assignment, validation and export user experience flows.
  • Telemetry and model‑output presentation: Define scalable interaction patterns for a variety of data categories, including telemetry, events, and entity property sets.
  • API integration and contract alignment: Collaborate with backend engineers on versioned contracts and generated clients; identify interface gaps, define frontend‑facing semantics, and handle loading, retry, timeout, partial failure, authorization, and schema evolution.
  • API mocking and parallel development: Establish realistic mocks, fixtures, contract tests, and development environments that allow frontend implementation and automated testing to progress independently of backend delivery.
  • Component and design‑system stewardship: Maintain reusable, accessible components and common patterns for forms, tables, job status, alerts, notifications, navigation, permissions, and error states.
  • Quality engineering: Define and enforce unit, integration, end‑to‑end, and regression test expectations; investigate defects; and support release validation across development, QA, release‑candidate, and production environments.
  • Performance, accessibility, and security: Review designs and implementations for rendering cost, bundle and network efficiency, large‑data usability, responsive behavior, accessibility, secure session and file‑transfer patterns, and permission‑aware behavior.
  • Documentation and operability: Maintain frontend design, API usage, component guidance, setup and release procedures, troubleshooting information, and known limitations in forms usable by engineers and support teams.
  • Cross‑functional delivery: Partner with other product and engineering teams to decompose work, communicate decisions and risks, sequence dependencies, and support predictable delivery.

Technical Leadership and Design Governance

  • Peer mentorship: Coach junior engineers through design, debugging, testing, documentation, and review; use pairing, examples, and constructive feedback to strengthen independent engineering judgment.
  • Code and design review: Participate in substantive reviews of technical specifications, architecture proposals, pull requests, tests, and documentation, focusing on correctness, maintainability, security, accessibility, performance, and consistency.
  • Work decomposition and coordination: Break complex features into coherent implementation units, define sequencing and interfaces, surface blockers early, and help coordinate shared frontend work.
  • Engineering standards: Reinforce and evolve frontend conventions, definition‑of‑done expectations, decision‑record practices, documentation standards, and reusable patterns through consensus and demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Technical representation: Represent frontend concerns in product and architecture discussions, communicate trade‑offs to technical and non‑technical stakeholders, and ensure decisions and unresolved risks are captured and followed through.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional experience building and shipping frontend or full‑stack web applications, including substantial ownership of production frontend architecture and complex feature delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a senior individual contributor, providing developer oversight and peer mentorship without relying on formal reporting authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to review functional specifications, identify gaps and dependencies, and produce clear implementation‑ready technical specifications.
  • Experience authoring architecture or engineering decision records, design documents, interface documentation, and maintainable developer guidance.
  • Production experience with React, including routing, component composition, state management, and asynchronous data fetching.
  • Experience designing complex data‑centric interfaces such as tables, filters, search, forms, file upload and download, progress displays, and long‑running job or workflow status.
  • Experience integrating web applications with strictly typed, versioned APIs and generated client libraries and collaborating on contract‑based interfaces and schema evolution.
  • Experience defining and implementing automated frontend testing at unit, integration, and end‑to‑end levels, including API mocking, fixtures, and regression coverage.
  • Minimum education requirement - High School Diploma.
  • Eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance - U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with API clients from versioned API definitions, Protobuf or similar strictly‑typed data contract workflows, and techniques for managing frontend/backend release compatibility.
  • Experience building data‑visualization or analyst and operator tools for time‑series telemetry, large datasets, geospatial data, anomaly or deviation scores, or related scientific and defense domains.
  • Familiarity with containerized, cloud‑native, disconnected, or air‑gapped deployments and the documentation and release discipline required to support them.

Working conditions

  • Employees may be called upon to participate in in‑person meetings, training, or company functions at Knowmadics offices or other designated locations. Travel in support of business operations may also be required, and employees are expected to comply with these obligations as part of their position.
