Laminar is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Edge Platform to own components of and build Laminar's next-generation edge computing platform. You’ll shape how our software, ML models, and LLM workloads run on Linux-based edge devices and factory-deployed servers.

This is a hands-on role from architecture to production deployment, with guidance for peers. We are looking for someone who can turn open-ended challenges into reliable systems, make thoughtful technical decisions, and help other

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain production edge Linux environments, including provisioning, networking, storage, and security.
• Design bare-metal server infrastructure and use virtualization/containers to deploy apps.
• Deploy and operate ML models and LLMs on edge hardware with performance and resource considerations.
• Build interfaces to connect Laminar to customer systems (MES, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, Profinet, Modbus).
• Create CI/CD pipelines for provisioning, remote updates, rollback, and monitoring.
• Mentor junior engineers and document architecture and decisions.

The Role

We're looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer, Edge Platform to own components of and build out Laminar's next-generation edge computing platform. You'll shape how our software, ML models, and LLM workloads run on Linux-based edge devices and factory-deployed servers. This is a hands-on role with ownership from early architecture and prototyping through production deployment. We're looking for someone who can turn open-ended challenges into reliable systems, make thoughtful technical decisions, and help other engineers grow along the way.

What You Will Do

• Linux Systems Engineering: Develop and maintain production edge Linux environments, including provisioning, networking, service management, storage, security, and performance tuning.
• Virtualization & Workload Management: Design bare-metal server infrastructure and use virtualization and containers to deploy, isolate, and manage applications.
• Edge AI Deployment: Work with data and ML teams to deploy and operate ML models and LLMs locally, accounting for compute, memory, latency, and hardware acceleration.
• Industrial Integration: Build on the interfaces that connect Laminar to customer systems, including MES integration and industrial communication protocols like Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, Profinet, Modbus, etc. Make it easy for a customer to integrate our system with what they have running.
• CI/CD: Build automated provisioning, remote updates, rollback, logging, and monitoring capabilities. Design for intermittent connectivity, power interruptions, and limited physical access.
• Security Engineering: Implement secure device access, identity management, software delivery, and communication between edge systems and cloud services.

About You

• 4+ years of experience building production systems software, with meaningful work on Linux systems, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Track record of owning the design, implementation, and success of significant components within a larger system.
• Comfortable defining technical direction, taking ownership, and delivering in a fast-paced product iteration cycle.
• Deep Linux experience, covering administration, networking, filesystems, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
• Experience shipping software into environments you don't control: into on-prem, edge, embedded, robotics, or similar.
• Practical experience with bare-metal infrastructure, hypervisors, virtual machines, and containers.
• Strong experience in languages such as Rust, Python, C/C++, or Go, with experience building automation and system tooling.
• Familiarity with deploying ML models and LLMs on edge hardware, including inference runtimes and resource constraints.
• Experience with deployment automation, monitoring, system recovery, and secure software updates.
• Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Our Interview Process

• Phone screen with Laminar HR/Recruiter (15-20 minutes)
• Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)
• On-site interview, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder's ahead of their Founder's Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually
