Senior Software Engineer – DevOps / Infrastructure (Onsite)

Location: Sterling, VA, United States. U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance are required.

We seek a skilled engineer to join our team in Sterling, VA, focused on designing and developing integrated simulation and training solutions. This role requires regular on‑site presence.

What You Will Do:

• Support and develop automation solutions that enable teams to build and deploy code efficiently and consistently.
• Take ownership of the program’s CI/CD pipeline, optimizing code integration and delivery of the simulation environment.
• Use troubleshooting skills to resolve issues with build chains or CI/CD pipeline tools.
• Identify manual processes that can be automated, recommend strategies and improvements, and implement them.
• Incorporate automated testing into the CI/CD pipeline and consider the entire CI/CD infrastructure when making changes.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years.
• Active, transferable U.S. government‑issued Secret security clearance.
• Experience deploying, configuring, and supporting CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency with GitLab, Jira, Confluence, Coverity, Nexus, Artifactory, and Splunk.
• Familiarity with automation frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, etc.
• Experience with server‑side scripting languages: Python, Bash, PowerShell.
• Experience with virtual environments: VMware, Proxmox, etc.
• Experience with continuous integration for real‑time testing and diagnostics within a virtualized environment.
• Basic understanding of networking (TCP/IP, VLANs) and experience configuring network devices or virtual networks.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience with IaaS/PaaS (Red Hat OpenShift, VMware, OpenStack) and cloud networking (L2/L3, spine‑leaf).
• Microservices using RESTful APIs.
• Agile development (Scrum, SAFe).
• Docker/Podman containers or Kubernetes orchestration.
• Database technologies: SQL, NoSQL (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MonetDB).
• Format knowledge: JSON, XML, YAML, XSD.
• Working in Linux and Windows environments; refactoring legacy systems for cloud or virtual environments.
• Development IDEs: Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code.

Certifications:

• Security (Security+, CISSP, or equivalent).
• Networking (CCNA, or equivalent).
