Job description

Come join the Data Platform Team as a Senior Software Engineer. We are building our next generation data platform by creating solutions that transform how Intuit employees build, launch, and maintain data and AI-powered applications. We leverage large-scale data processing technologies from AWS, Databricks, and open source like Apache Spark and Apache Flink.

This role involves applying high caliber software engineering and industry best practices to design, implement, and support full-stack features in our data processing platform. You will lead significant projects and participate in the entire product lifecycle for major feature and service launches.

You will typically drive projects within your team. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners as needed, make localized technical decisions for the platform, and influence team engineering processes. We seek engineers that can wear multiple hats beyond just a developer; you will be encouraged to proactively identify and size new opportunities, and partner with stakeholders to ideate, test, and validate hypotheses using rapid experimentation.

Ultimately, we're looking for someone who is passionate about data technologies, writes clean code, and loves building for customers.

Responsibilities
Technical Craft & Execution
  • 90%+ hands-on development in all phases of the software life cycle

  • Rapidly fix bugs, troubleshoot complex issues, and define ongoing solutions

  • Lead and estimate work for key features

  • Create technical design specifications and data models

Mentorship & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Share feedback and coaching with fellow engineers on best practices and technical decisions

  • Help foster an inclusive, collaborative team culture

Growth & Product Mindset
  • Understand our platform’s customer behaviors, funnel metrics, and use cases; leverage this understanding to maximize the impact of your work

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of current technology trends and best practices

  • Drive technical design for your features to ensure quality, security, reliability, performance, and cost are reasonably balanced against our business goals and timelines

Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong background in data engineering

  • Expertise in developing Java services (e.g., Spring/Spring Boot); familiarity with Python service development is a plus

  • Expertise with database technologies such as MySQL and PostgreSQL

  • Expertise in containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Databricks, or GCP; familiarity with AWS EMR, AWS S3, AWS MSK, and AWS EKS is a plus

  • Familiarity with developing Spark applications or using other distributed data frameworks to transform, analyze, and visualize data is a plus

  • Familiarity with real-time processing (e.g., Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming, Flink) is a plus

  • Experience building and using GenAI solutions to improve product offerings (e.g., personalization, recommendation, automation)

  • Experience using GenAI technologies like Cursor and Claude to accelerate development and improve efficiency for both yourself and your team

  • Expertise with software development methodologies and practices, including Agile and Scrum

  • Strong written, verbal, and collaboration skills

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new priorities, tools, and technologies in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
