Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Huntsville seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design core software components for avionics, aligning with DO-178 requirements and safety standards. Qualifications

  • Degree in STEM with 5+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years.
  • U.S. citizenship or equivalent status required for access to program information.
  • Proven experience designing software architecture and platform‑level components in aerospace or safety‑critical domains.
  • Ability to lead technical execution, engage with customers, and present to stakeholders.
  • Hands‑on experience with safety‑critical airborne software development and certification activities.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and delivering high-impact solutions in safety‑critical environments.

What You Will Do
  • Develop the architecture and design of core software components, libraries, and tooling aligned to avionics system requirements
  • Drive technical direction and execution across development and verification activities for safety‑critical software (DO-178)

  • Develop and verify software using modern C++ and object‑oriented design principles

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experienceoran Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • U.S. citizenship isrequired, as only U.S. citizensare authorized toaccess information under this program/contract.
  • Proven experience designing and developing software architecture, libraries, or platform‑level components within an aerospace or safety‑critical environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution oftasks, including customer engagement and presenting stakeholders
  • Hands‑on experience supporting Safety Critical Airborne software development and certification activities (e.g., requirements, verification, or certification artifacts)
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Hands‑on experience supporting DO-178 software development and certification activities (e.g., requirements, verification, or certification artifacts)
  • Experience with C++ and VxWorks.
  • Experience writing High‑Level and Low‑Level Requirements.
  • Experience writing Test Cases and Automated Test Procedures.
  • Experience with Civil Certification DO-178 – DAL A preferred.
  • Experience with design and development of Flight Management Systems, Software, Aircraft Applications or Middleware.
  • Familiar with revision control concepts and tools (e.g.GIT, Subversion, JIRA).

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
