Join the Core Frameworks team, a focal point for foundational engineering at Toast. The Core Frameworks team empowers developers across the company by building and maintaining the core libraries and tools used for developing web services. We maintain and grow local development tools that accelerate engineers in the inner-loop of development, increasingly leveraging AI to enhance these workflows. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be crucial in maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure and tools used by hundreds of developers at Toast to create a best-in-class customer and guest experience. You'll work on developing new features—including AI-assisted capabilities—that will enable other programmers to be more productive and effective in doing their jobs.
We seek a proactive and skilled Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in building core libraries and developer tooling. In this role, you will work as part of a team of talented engineers and collaborate closely with product managers and internal users. You will design, develop, and maintain tools that streamline the software development lifecycle, exploring how AI can further optimize these processes. You’ll also contribute to key internal development platform components like service templates, manage LaunchDarkly for the company, and help teams identify dependencies that need to be upgraded. This position is ideal for someone with an eye toward systematic software development and is passionate about delivering high-quality software solutions that improve the work of other developers.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits. You can learn more about how we align pay with local labor markets in our Geographic Pay Zone Philosophy.
Zone A: $159,000—$254,000 USD
Zone B: $138,000—$221,000 USD
Zone C: $125,000—$200,000 USD
