Job summary

Sony Interactive Entertainment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Cloud Streaming Game Services in Aliso Viejo, CA. You will design server-side components powering the PlayStation cloud and build Kubernetes controllers for infrastructure orchestration.

You’ll own features from design through testing and deployment, collaborate with SRE and Platform teams, and emphasize reliability and performance while using AI-assisted tools to accelerate delivery.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience designing, implementing, and operating production software systems.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems spanning software and infrastructure.
• Passion for building reliable, maintainable, and highly automated systems.

Senior Software Engineer - Cloud Streaming Game Services (Contractor)

As a part of Sony Interactive Entertainment, the Game Development & Future Technology (GDFT) organization is leading the cloud gaming and development revolution, putting console-quality video games on any device!

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Cloud Streaming Game Services (CSGS) team, you’ll play a key role in the design and development of server-side applications on a large geographically distributed infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software powering the globally distributed PlayStation Cloud Streaming infrastructure
• Build Kubernetes controllers, operators, and system services powering infrastructure lifecycle management and orchestration
• Own features from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
• Develop high-quality, maintainable code with comprehensive unit and integration testing
• Partner with SRE, Test and Platform Engineering to deliver reliable production services
• Investigate and resolve production issues with a focus on reliability and performance
• Contribute to architecture discussions, technical design documents, and engineering standards
• Effectively communicate technical approaches, project status, risks, estimates, and dependencies
• Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Codex, Claude, etc) to accelerate design, implementation, documentation, and debugging while maintaining engineering quality through sound technical judgment and code review
• Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and automation opportunities that improve engineering velocity, reliability, and operational efficiency

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years of professional software development experience
• Experience designing, implementing, and operating production software systems
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems spanning software and infrastructure
• Passion for building reliable, maintainable, and highly automated systems

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong experience developing production software in Rust
• Experience building applications or controllers on Kubernetes
• Experience developing software on Linux
• Proficiency with Git and modern software development workflows
• Familiarity with container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience debugging complex distributed applications
• Experience writing automated unit and integration tests
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of observability platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, OTel, or OpenSearch
• Experience working with modern AI-assisted software development tools to improve productivity while applying critical engineering review and validation

• Understanding of distributed systems concepts including concurrency, asynchronous programming, event-driven architectures, fault tolerance and consistency models

Additional Attributes

• Familiarity with Java or C++
• Familiar with Agile development concepts
• Comfortable working across software, infrastructure, networking, and hardware domains
• Experience with infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible, AWX, or GitOps workflows
• Ability to thrive in an environment with evolving requirements and technical challenges
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Contribution to the open-source community (ie. blogs, source code, etc)
