Job summary

Snowflake is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to design, build, and operate a scalable platform for cost-aware cloud utilization and observability. You will create AI-enabled agents and tooling to enhance monitoring, alerting, and root-cause analysis across Snowflake's cloud infrastructure.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Finance, Product, and Engineering to translate usage and cost insights into operational improvements and cost optimization across large private and public cloud

• 7+ years designing and supporting large-scale production systems.
• Experience with cost optimization on large clouds.
• Strong system/architectural analysis to derive actionable insights.

• Contribute to open-source and industry best practices in monitoring and distributed systems.

Snowflake runs large scale cloud infrastructure to deliver its own service — production and internal deployments, Kubernetes fleets, CI/CD, etc. Our cloud spend is in billions of dollars per year. The Cloud Efficiency team builds a unified, self-serve cloud efficiency platform along with AI skills and agents that makes spend observable, attributable, governable while driving insights and optimization of our cloud spend.

AS A SOFTWARE ENGINEER AT SNOWFLAKE YOU WILL:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable platform for resource ownership registry, usage attribution, utilization measurement, and cost modeling.
• Build AI agents, tools and automation to enhance system monitoring, alerting, and root cause analysis.
• Improve and optimize data ingestion, storage, and query efficiency for cloud utilization, cost and efficiency data at scale.
• Collaborate with teams across Snowflake to understand attribution and observability needs and implement solutions that improve operational visibility.
• Contribute to open-source and industry best practices in monitoring and distributed systems monitoring.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of team-managed platforms by participating in on‑call rotations and incident management.
• Partner with Finance, Product and Engineering teams to turn usage, cost and utilization insights into landed operational change.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

• 7+ years of industry experience designing, building and supporting large scale systems in production.
• Experience with cost optimization and efficiency work on systems built on large private clouds or public cloud providers
• Deep system and architectural analysis experience to identify actionable performance and efficiency insights
• History of delivering large cross functional projects with measurable impact
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Python or Java.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a production environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• BS / MS in Computer Science, Engineering or related fields
• Prior background building AI agents and working with LLMs

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience developing or using observability infrastructure such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus etc
• Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and its billing models — AWS, Azure, or GCP: compute instance families, storage tiers, networking and data‑transfer charges, reserved vs. on‑demand, and how billing/CUR exports are structured.
• FinOps experience: cost attribution, chargeback, showback, or unit‑economics programs.

The following represents the expected range of compensation for this role:

• The estimated base salary range for this role is $200,000 - $287,500.
• Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Snowflake’s bonus and equity plan.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non‑discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
