Job summary

First American is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in California to design, build and maintain Azure cloud-native applications. You will code, review pull requests, and help shape architecture while mentoring junior engineers.

You should bring 5+ years in cloud-native development, strong Python and SQL skills, Docker, DevOps mindset, and experience with multi‑platform stacks including React/TypeScript. Collaboration and on‑call readiness are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of cloud-native applications experience (Azure preferred, AWS ok).
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
• Strong OOP design and relational DB proficiency (PostgreSQL, MS SQL).
• Experience with Docker, Linux, Azure, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to design scalable systems and document design choices.

Responsibilities

• Modify and enhance existing applications as well as assist the team on product delivery by writing code and reviewing pull requests

What You'll Do:

What You'll Bring:

• 5+ years of experience in cloud-native applications (Azure strongly preferred, AWS is also ok) using Python
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Thorough understanding of Object‑Oriented Programming (OOP) design and practices
• Strong RDBMS experience (PostgreSQL, MS SQL etc.) designing tables & writing queries
• SQL experience is a strong plus
• Proven ability to identify, explain, and implement common design patterns
• Demonstrated experience and design of systems or pipelines from scratch
• Ability to assess and clearly articulate design trade‑offs, scalability options, and performance implications
• Conduct code reviews to ensure best coding practices are utilized
• Strong knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, CI/CD, and DevOps
• Fluency with multi‑platform software utilizing various programming environments and tools
• Excellent communication and written skills
• Eager to learn new languages and technologies
• Knowledge of Python, Ruby, Azure, React,JavaScript/TypeScript, REST API, Relational Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL etc.), NoSQL Databases (MongoDB etc.) preferred
• Experience with Docker, Linux, Windows, Azure, GIT, NPM Package Management preferred

Pay Range: $129,300.00 - $172,300.00 AnnuallyThis hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
