GitHub is seeking a seasoned software engineer for the Billing team, remote-first in the United States. You will own and evolve billing systems, drive architectural choices to balance reliability and scale, and collaborate across backend, API, and frontend layers to enable secure, scalable transactions.
You will mentor engineers, define testing strategies, and incorporate customer feedback while leveraging AI-assisted tools like GitHub Copilot to maximize impact.

GitHub's Billing team builds and maintains the systems behind how millions of developers and organizations pay for GitHub. This includes licensing and metered billing infrastructure, granular spend controls, subscription plan management, and accurate financial reporting.
As part of a platform that supports everything from individual developers to Fortune 500 enterprises, you'll work on systems that process transactions at scale, integrate with broader commerce infrastructure, and directly impact GitHub's revenue and trust. It's a space where engineering decisions carry real financial and compliance consequences, and where you'll build deep expertise in a domain that's increasingly valuable across the industry.
We're a remote-first, distributed team looking for a seasoned engineer who brings strong technical judgment and is still genuinely curious about learning new domains. You don't need to be a payments expert, but you should be excited about working on systems that demand precision and rigor, and about enabling customers to understand and scale their usage of GitHub.
The base salary range for this job is USD $124,000.00 - USD $329,200.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
This position will be open for a minimum of 3 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
