PortX, Inc. in Seattle, WA seeks a Senior Software Engineer (backend, Java, AI tools) to design and deliver backend services and APIs for banking integrations.

You will build scalable components, apply AI tools to boost productivity, and work across AWS deployments in a hybrid, full-time role. The role emphasizes ownership, collaboration with cross-functional teams, maintaining high-quality code, and contributing to architecture discussions while ensuring security and reliability in payments

Day to day responsibilities

• Hands-on development for PortX customer integration projects.
• Build and enhance APIs, backend services, and integration components across modern banking and payments environments.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality solutions for PortX customer integration projects.
• Use modern AI tools responsibly to accelerate engineering productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve customer-reported technical issues in a timely manner, including root cause analysis and permanent fixes where appropriate.
• Participate in architectural and technical design discussions, helping define robust, secure, and maintainable solutions.
• Contribute to deployment, configuration, and operational support processes across cloud-based environments, primarily AWS.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, tooling, and development practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance, reliability, observability, and scalability.
• Create and maintain technical documentation relating to implementations, integrations, troubleshooting, and support handover.

You’ll need these skills

• Strong Java development experience, as your main programming language
• Experience with enterprise integration implementation, API development
• Strong, hands-on experience leveraging AI tools in your work
• Hands on experience with containerization
• Hands on experience with Spring Boot framework
• Hands on experience with deploying to AWS platform
• Hands on experience with GIT
• Experienced working in Banking or Payments companies or projects is an advantage
