Job summary

Halo Media is hiring a Senior Software Engineer – Backend / Integrations to design, build, and scale backend services and external integrations on Google Cloud Platform using Java 21 and Spring Boot.

You will develop event-driven microservices, work with Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, and Cloud Workflows, and integrate REST, SOAP, SFTP, and webhooks while maintaining secure API access with OAuth 2.0 / OIDC and JWT.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.x.
• Experience designing and developing microservices in production environments.
• Strong production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience with Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Cloud Workflows, and Cloud Scheduler.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging patterns.
• Hands-on experience building integrations using REST, SOAP, SFTP, and webhooks.
• Experience implementing API security using OAuth 2.0 / OIDC and JWT.
• Experience with automated testing, including JUnit and integration testing.
• Experience with CI/CD, code reviews, and production deployments.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Java 21 / Spring Boot microservices running on Cloud Run.
• Build backend services for licensing, case management, payments, documents, and notifications.
• Design PostgreSQL/AlloyDB persistence with data isolation and search capabilities.
• Build asynchronous event-driven flows using Pub/Sub and Eventarc.
• Implement scheduled processing with Cloud Tasks and Cloud Scheduler.
• Develop multi-service orchestrations using Cloud Workflows.
• Build and maintain integrations with external state and federal systems via REST, SOAP, SFTP, and webhooks.
• Implement secure payment processing and settlement/reconciliation workflows.
• Ensure services meet security, encryption, and data isolation requirements.
• Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Backend / Integrations to join a high-impact customer engagement and help build scalable backend services and external integrations.

This role is ideal for a senior backend engineer with deep Java and Spring Boot experience who has built event-driven microservices, worked extensively with Google Cloud Platform, and integrated applications with external systems through REST, SOAP, SFTP, and webhooks.

You will work closely with technical leads, frontend and mobile engineers, and customer stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle, from solution definition through production delivery.

Technical Requirements:

• 8+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.x.
• Experience designing and developing microservices in production environments.
• Strong production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience with Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Cloud Workflows, and Cloud Scheduler.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging patterns, including idempotency, retries, and dead-letter handling.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, indexing, and versioned database migrations.
• Hands-on experience building integrations using REST, SOAP, SFTP, and webhooks.
• Experience implementing API security using OAuth 2.0 / OIDC and JWT.
• Experience with automated testing, including JUnit and integration testing.
• Experience with CI/CD, code reviews, and production deployments.

Preferred Technologies & Experience:

• AlloyDB and BigQuery.
• Eventarc and asynchronous cloud architectures.
• Workflow technologies such as Flowable and BPMN.
• Business rules engines.
• Experience with payment processing integrations, including payment flows and reconciliation.
• Experience working in government or regulated environments, such as HIPAA, FIPS, or CJIS.
• Google Cloud Professional certifications.
