Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend for Coinbase One. You will own backend services powering membership lifecycle, sign-up flows, and recurring payments, and drive scalable platform capabilities across the retail app.

You will collaborate with frontend, product, design, and payments teams to deliver customer-facing features from concept to production, while improving reliability and performance of the backend stack. This is a remote-first, hybrid role in the United States.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience shipping production services at scale.
• Experience building subscription, payments, or commerce systems with recurring billing or entitlements.
• Proficiency in Go or a similar backend language with ability to adapt to a Go-centric codebase.
• Design and maintain APIs and distributed systems across web and mobile surfaces.
• Proven ability to scope ambiguous projects and collaborate with product/design partners.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

What you'll do:

• Own the design, development, and operation of backend services powering the Coinbase One membership lifecycle, including sign-up flows, subscription management, and recurring payment processing
• Build scalable platform capabilities that enable targeted benefit delivery, promotional incentives, and personalized membership experiences across the Coinbase retail application
• Partner with frontend, product, design, and payments teams to scope, ship, and iterate on customer-facing membership features from concept through production
• Drive backend architecture decisions for the Coinbase One product area, establishing patterns for reliability, extensibility, and integration with broader Coinbase platform services
• Improve service reliability, observability, and performance across Coinbase One's backend stack, proactively identifying and resolving production issues

Required Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience with a track record of shipping and operating production services at scale
• Demonstrated experience building subscription, payments, or commerce systems, including recurring billing, entitlements, or promotional logic
• Proficiency in Go or a similar backend systems language (Java, C++, Rust) with demonstrated ability to adapt to a Go-centric codebase
• Proven ability to design and maintain APIs and distributed systems that integrate across multiple product surfaces (web and mobile)
• Track record of taking ambiguous projects from scoping through production with minimal oversight, including cross-functional collaboration with product and design partners
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Pay Transparency Notice:Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $186,065 — $218,900 USD
