Job summary

Affirm is hiring a senior software engineer to drive technical strategy by planning, prioritizing, and delivering large-scale, high-availability services. You’ll design robust APIs and data models for microservice and event-driven architectures, shaping systems that scale with the business.

You’ll mentor junior engineers, lead design reviews, and collaborate with product, analytics, design, legal, and accounting to support card loan attribution and lifecycle strategies.

What You’ll Do

• Drive technical strategy by leading the planning, prioritization, and execution of projects, ensuring alignment with product, technical, and business goals.
• Lead the end-to-end system design and development of large-scale, high-availability services. This includes building robust APIs and data models for our micro-service and event-driven architectures.
• Collaborate across functions with partners in Product, Analytics, Design, Legal, and Accounting and to define requirements and execute our card loan attribution and lifecycle strategy.
• Ensure system health and performance by analyzing and troubleshooting complex technical issues, optimizing existing code, and driving solutions that focus on long-term robustness and scalability.
• Mentor and grow the team by guiding junior engineers, leading technical discussions and design reviews, and championing best practices through code review.

Equity Grade - USA 9

Employees new to affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents.)

USA Pacific base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $195,000 - $255,000

USA Sapphire base pay range (all other U.S. states): $173,000 - $233,000
