Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior software engineer to develop data-intensive and AI-enabled applications supporting Product Development and Quality teams. You will design software and data solutions using Java, Python, SQL, and Databricks, and build robust data pipelines in cloud environments.

You will collaborate with data scientists and architects in Agile teams, lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and champion CI/CD, observability, and secure coding practices.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
6+ years delivering enterprise or full stack software solutions using Java/JEE, Python, and preferably Angular.
3+ years of experience with complex SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures, including performance tuning on large datasets.
Experience building or supporting data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes on Databricks or Spark.
3+ years of experience with Kubernetes/Docker and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
Experience in Agile/SCRUM development methodologies.
Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
Willingness to learn AI concepts including AI/ML and LLM-based solutions.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred: Master’s Degree and 10+ years of enterprise-grade software experience (optional).
Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Job description

Responsibilities

Develop data-intensive and AI-enabled software applications and services supporting Product Development and Quality teams
Design and build software and data solutions using SQL, Databricks, Java, and Python
Write performant SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures for complex data transformations and modeling
Build and optimize Databricks data pipelines and workflows for batch and near-real-time processing
Develop backend services and APIs in Java and/or Python
Develop enterprise-grade applications using Kubernetes/Docker, Quarkus, Java, Angular, PostgreSQL, and other GM-approved tools
Partner with data science and AI teams to productionize AI/ML and LLM-based solutions
Identify and remediate issues involving code quality, performance, security, and data correctness
Lead or contribute to solution architecture, patterns, and technology decisions aligned with GM standards
Champion code reviews, automated testing, branching strategies, CI/CD, observability, and secure coding
Collaborate with product owners, data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders in an Agile/SCRUM environment
Troubleshoot production issues across data, application, and infrastructure layers and drive root-cause analysis
Navigate corporate processes to remove project roadblocks
Guide and mentor software engineers and team members
Document software and data solutions to GM standards

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, OR equivalent experience
6+ years of experience delivering enterprise or full stack software solutions using Java / JEE, Python, and preferably Angular
3+ years of experience working with complex SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures, including performance tuning and optimization against large datasets
Experience building or supporting data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, or data-centric applications on distributed or cloud platforms such as Databricks or Spark
3+ years of experience with Kubernetes/Docker, Quarkus, and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
Experience working in Agile/SCRUM development methodologies
Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub, code reviews, automated builds, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions
Willingness and demonstrated ability to learn and apply AI concepts, including AI/ML and LLM-based solutions
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ownership mindset and accountability for quality
Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
Preferred: 10+ years of experience delivering enterprise-grade or globally scalable software applications
Preferred: Deep hands-on experience with Databricks and/or Spark
Preferred: Experience migrating applications and complex data workloads to Azure or other cloud platforms
Preferred: Experience supporting AI/ML initiatives and MLOps concepts
Preferred: Knowledge of relational and dimensional data modeling, data quality, metadata management, and data governance
Preferred: Experience with observability and reliability practices
Preferred: Ability to influence technical direction, establish reusable patterns and standards, and mentor engineers
