Job summary

GEICO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Underwriting Automation Team. You will design, develop, and deploy core consumer experiences with API-first design to transform the insurance tech stack. The role emphasizes scalable microservices, AI-enabled automation, and production-ready systems.

Hybrid work across multiple offices; requires strong full-stack and system design skills, plus experience with GraphQL, gRPC, Java, Python, and cloud-native runtimes.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of full-stack development experience with client- and server-side frameworks.
• 4+ years in architecture and design, 2+ years in open-source frameworks.
• 2+ years of cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure) or similar.
• Experience in API-first engineering, service orchestration, and real-time APIs.

Responsibilities

• Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems.
• Engage in cross-functional collaboration across the software lifecycle.
• Participate in design sessions and code reviews to raise engineering quality.
• Design and develop APIs and microservices using GraphQL, gRPC, Java, Python.
• Work with SQL/NoSQL databases and deploy in a hybrid cloud with Kubernetes.
• Deliver end-to-end solutions spanning front-end to back-end services.
