Job summary

Handshake is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Coding Pod in San Francisco. You will lead the design and development of data infrastructure powering frontier AI coding models, bridging ML research and production systems.

You'll own end-to-end platform investments from scalable data pipelines to evaluation environments, collaborating with ML researchers, product managers, and engineers to accelerate model development and improve evaluation quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend/data-infrastructure engineering.
• Experience with large-scale data pipelines and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Python/TypeScript/Java or similar languages.
• Strong system design, scalability, reliability, and maintainability skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerized environments.
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead technical projects.

Responsibilities

• Architect scalable data infrastructure for large-scale coding datasets.
• Design end-to-end evaluation systems (grading, benchmarking, reviews).
• Lead developer tooling and integrations with engineering ecosystems (GitHub, CI/CD).
• Build backend services and APIs for datasets and evaluation pipelines.
• Drive decisions on distributed systems, workflows, and data quality.
• Collaborate with ML researchers and product managers to translate requirements into production systems.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, and performance.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and architectural guidance.
• Standardize reusable infrastructure and evaluation frameworks.
