Vonage is seeking a senior backend engineer to design and develop highly concurrent, distributed backend services in a cloud-native environment. You will own architectural decisions, drive performance optimizations, and contribute to release readiness while mentoring junior engineers.

• Experience with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, Redis).
• Strong test design skills across Unit/Integration/Smoke tests.

Why This Role MattersThe RNE (Registration, Numbers and Enablement) group within the company's Foundation Engineering department works across four core product domains: Registration, Numbers, Number Intelligence, and Know Your Customer (KYC). Our senior engineers play a key role in driving technical quality and platform evolution, working on a modern cloud-native stack across both greenfield and existing systems.

What You Will Do

• Design and develop highly concurrent, distributed backend services with a focus on high availability;
• Take solid ownership of architectural contributions, driving technical decisions within and across teams;
• Lead performance optimisation efforts and proactively diagnose complex system issues;
• Design, develop and test new features, setting a high bar for quality and reliability;
• Support the release and documentation of developed features;
• Define and champion coding standards and development processes;
• Mentor and support more junior engineers within the team;
• Provide out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.

What You Will BringEssential:

• Strong programming skills in Go (Golang);
• Proven experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade systems at scale;
• Solid experience with highly concurrent, distributed architectures and systems;
• Solid experience contributing to and driving architectural decisions;
• Experience with containerised applications and cloud-native environments;
• Experience profiling and optimising performance at scale;
• Experience building REST/HTTP based services;
• Strong experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis);
• Strong test suite design skills, including Unit, Integration and Smoke tests, enabling safe promotion of code to production without manual intervention;
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical problems and solutions clearly.

Nice to Have:

• Hands-on experience with AWS (SQS, SNS, DynamoDB), Kafka, Kubernetes or Terraform;
• Understanding of Continuous Delivery in cloud environments;
• General understanding of the telecommunications industry.
