Job summary

Illumio, headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA, is hiring a software engineer to join our on-site team. You will design and build distributed microservices, containerized in Go, running on Kubernetes across multi-cloud environments, and you will own features from design to deployment.

With 4+ years of distributed systems experience, you will mentor juniors, collaborate with Product Management, and use Go, SQL, REST APIs, and cloud tooling like AWS/Azure/GCP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in computer science or equivalent degree; Master’s degree a plus.
• 4+ years building distributed & scalable software and systems.
• Passion for software development, continuous learning, and teamwork.
• AWS / Azure / GCP cloud experience at API level; networking and security skills a plus.
• Experience delivering containerized services on Kubernetes (K8s).
• Go, SQL, REST API client experience; CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible are nice to have; Unix/Linux experience.

Your Impact

• Develop containerized (micro) services for a distributed multi‑tenant system that processes data and real‑time events and network telemetry from multiple public clouds to provide real‑time insights, visibility, and security recommendations to customers so they can identify and minimize risk in the cloud.
• Design your service, work out all of the details, defend the design/architecture before your peers, and deliver a rock‑solid implementation.
• Mentor junior engineers, new‑grads, and interns to help them grow as engineers and become productive members of the team.
• Write code primarily in Go and work with data pipelines using SQL or other interfaces. Leverage Kubernetes for the service infrastructure platform. Welcome candidates with backgrounds in other languages and technology stacks along with a desire to learn.
• Own critical features and subsystems and oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from clarifying requirements to ensuring successful deployment and customer usage.
• Own operational aspects of the system, being on the front lines and experiencing first‑hand operational challenges to write better, more supportable software.
• Own code quality, performing early developer testing and functional/integration testing to build robust and resilient products.
• Partner with Product Management to review, refine requirements that exceed customer expectations.
• Develop deep understanding of the fundamental problems our customers need solved through interaction with stakeholders and peers.

Your Toolkit

• Bachelor’s in computer science or equivalent degree; Master’s degree a plus.
• 4+ years building distributed & scalable software and systems.
• Passion for software development, constantly learning, keeping up with technological trends, and working in a team setting.
• AWS / Azure / GCP cloud experience: extensively used one at the API/programming level; networking and security controls experience is a plus.
• Experience delivering containerized services on K8s is desired.
• Language requirements: Go, SQL, REST API client experience; CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible are nice to have; general TCP/IP networking knowledge; Unix/Linux programming environment experience.
